Driving from Singapore into Johor Bahru for the first time? Here's everything you and your vehicle need before you queue up — split into what covers you, and what covers the car.

| Singapore driving license | Valid to drive in Malaysia as-is — Malaysia recognizes Singapore driving licenses, and no International Driving Permit is required for Singapore license holders. |
| Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) | Not required for Singapore citizens — Malaysia exempted Singaporeans from the MDAC entirely when it introduced the requirement in 2024, regardless of checkpoint or mode of entry. Non-Singaporean passengers should check separately. |

| Valid motor insurance certificate | Required as part of VEP registration, and you should carry proof of current coverage on every trip. |
| Valid road tax / Certificate of Entitlement (COE) | Your vehicle registration must be current — an expired road tax or COE can complicate entry even with a valid VEP. |
| At least 3/4 tank of fuel | Singapore-registered vehicles must have at least a 3/4-full tank when exiting Singapore, checked at the SG-side checkpoint. See our fuel tank rule guide. |
| Touch 'n Go card with balance | Covers the RM20 Malaysia road charge on entry, plus SG-side ERP/toll where applicable at Tuas. |
If any single item on this list is missing — no VEP, insufficient fuel, an expired document — you risk being turned back or fined at the checkpoint, which costs far more time than the few minutes it takes to check beforehand.
